by United Way NCA

United Way NCA joins the entire community in mourning the passing of Oramenta Newsome, Vice President of LISC DC on February 1st. Ms. Newsome set the bar high for compassion and vision. Her fierce advocacy fighting for District residents most in need will be deeply missed. She left an indelible footprint and was recognized widely for her contributions as an icon of community development. Ms. Newsome was a tireless champion for low income residents and her absence in the conversation will leave a void that can only be filled by her continuing legacy. Oramenta Newsome truly embodied what we mean when we Live United.

  • On Thursday, February 8, from 5 pm to 9 pm, there will be a visitation at Howell Funeral Home, 10220 Guilford Road, Jessup, MD, 20794.
  • On Friday, February 9, there will be a wake at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am, both also at Howell Funeral Home.
  • In lieu of flowers, Oramenta’s family has requested that those who wish to make a donation in her memory do so by contributing to the American Cancer Society or to the DCPL Adult Literacy Fund (please specify “adult literacy” or in memory of Oramenta Newsome).
