Tocqueville Society
The Tocqueville Society Program was initiated in March 1984 by United Way of America and was designed to deepen the understanding, commitment and support of individuals to United Ways while recognizing extraordinary community service. Membership in the Society is granted to those individuals giving $10,000 or more annually to their United Way.
The local Tocqueville Society of the National Capital Area was established in 1996. Members of this premier group are our region's most generous philanthropists who recognize that this community is only as strong as its ability to give to the heart of what matters.....helping those in desperate need.
By becoming a member of the Society, you will unite with other community leaders and philanthropists throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area to assist United Way empower families, children and individuals to realize their dreams. Your investment through United Way creates meaningful, tangible impact in our community.
Dear Neighbor,
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about your United Way and our Tocqueville Society. You may be aware of United Way of the National Capital Area’s (UWNCA’s) work to address and respond to critical issues affecting individual communities and the Washington Area as a whole. UWNCA’s Tocqueville Society was established to recognize individuals who have invested $10,000 and more to support this work.
Named after the French historian Alexis de Tocqueville, a noted thinker and historian who observed the voluntary spirit of the American people, the Tocqueville Society is UWNCA’s premiere donor organization. Benefits of joining the Tocqueville Society include:
- Invitations to network with other community-oriented philanthropists at Tocqueville events, including salons, receptions, and celebratory galas;
- Opportunities to influence organizational strategies in one-on-one meetings with UWNCA’s top leaders;
- Membership in UWNCA’s Women’s Leadership Council or Young Leaders’ Society;
- Regular updates on the positive impact of your contributions to United Way; and
- Inclusion in United Way’s Book of Leaders, a global registry of over 20,000 philanthropists who share your commitment to create positive change.
As someone who cares about the Greater Washington Region, you are invited to become a member of UWNCA’s Tocqueville Society. If you have never given to UWNCA and would like to support our affordable housing or child wellness initiatives, you can become a member of our Tocqueville Society for $5,000.
