March 2009: WLC Inaugural Luncheon
On March 26, 2009, more than 200 women from the Greater Washington area asembled for the inaugural WLC luncheon at Sequoia Restaurant in Georgetown. Guests enjoyed an inspiring program which included a presentation by Barbara Kamara, Co-chair of the UWNCA Child Wellness Steering Committee and celebrated this year's WLC Spirit Award recipient, Sheila C. Johnson, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and champion of humanitarian causes.
February 2008: Capitol Hill Day
On February 28, 2008, over 200 women from WLCs across the country descended upon Washington, DC to raise awareness for the human care issues that their communities are facing. WLC board members Bernadette Harvey, Marian Healey and Salena Zellers all had the opportunity to meet with their members of Congress to discuss the importance of 2-1-1 and to encourage them to sign on to the bill.
March 2008: An Evening in Watercolor
Local watercolor artist and consulting business owner Leslie Traub joined the WLC at Georgetown Prep in Rockville to lead a participatory demonstration on watercolor art. Ms. Traub discussed her artistic awakening as well as her ability to find balance in her life with art and a successful business.

June 2008: Affordable Housing Discussion and Site Visits
WLC Board members met with Michelle Bondi, Director of the Northern Virginia Affordable Housing Alliance and Nina Janopaul, Executive Director of Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing to learn more about the affordable housing crisis that faces our community and went on a tour of local affordable housing sites in Northern Virginia.
September 2008: Wine-Tasting and Alexandria Affordable Housing
Dialogue
WLC board member Salena Zellers hosted a wine-tasting at her home in Alexandria, VA and invited leaders of the City of Alexandria’s housing department and development experts to discuss the affordable housing situations in Alexandria.

Early 2009: First Annual WLC Luncheon
The WLC of UWNCA will be hosting its first luncheon in early 2009. The WLC’s signature project will be launched.
February 2009:
Chocolate and Champagne in DC
WLC co-chair and National Women’s Leadership Council member Patricia Hobson will be hosting a small event celebrating two of life’s finest offerings at her home to discuss the WLC and opportunities to give, advocate and volunteer.
Annapolis Day 2009
WLC members from across Maryland will head to Annapolis to discuss 2-1-1 with their legislators in hopes of ensuring its status as a state-wide program offered 24/7.
March 4-6, 2009: National Women’s Leadership Council Summit, Miami, FL
WLC members from across the country will come together to learn from each other, trade ideas and network at this fabulous biannual summit held in Miami. Special guest is Dara Torres.
March 2009: Day of Caring
WLC members will participate in a volunteer activity (TBD).
April 2009: Networking event in Prince George’s County
WLC board members Tiffany Hollinger and Jackie Rhone will host a small gathering in Prince George’s County to talk about the WLC and all the wonderful benefits membership has to offer.
May 2009: Fashion Show/Dress for Success Drive
June 2009: Networking event in Loudoun County
WLC co-chair Connie Bertram will host a salon in Loudoun County to highlight the work that the WLC does and why women should consider being a member.
