Who are We?
The United Way Young Leaders are a network of passionate, community minded
young professionals who want to connect with like-minded men and women, serve their community, and become leaders among their peers in philanthropic giving.
For any young professional aged 25-40, membership into the Young Leaders’ Society can be secured by a gift to United Way of $1,000 annually or a new matched $500 gift to our affordable housing or child wellness initiatives.

Young Leaders work closely with United Way staff to identify volunteer and fundraising opportunities that resonate with the group’s interests. In addition, by affiliating with YL, members are provided with valuable networking and leadership-related events. Benefits of the Young Leaders’ Society include:
- Opportunities to network with like-minded young professionals through retreats, meetings and conference calls;
- Invitations to events with other young professionals who share a commitment to community service and philanthropy, volunteer activities, and forums to learn more about our community and how young leaders can have an impact; and
- Frequent updates on the positive impact of your contributions to United Way.
Dear Young Professionals in the greater Washington region,
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about your United Way. United Way of the National Capital Area coordinates one of the largest fundraising campaigns in the country, dispersing tens of millions of dollars to more than 900 nonprofit partners in the metropolitan Washington area. Through financial gifts large and small, we make a real impact on the lives of tens of thousands of people in communities and neighborhoods throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia by providing food, shelter, and other basic needs.
United Way NCA invites you to help improve people’s lives in your community. If you are a young professional between the ages of 21 and 40, you are invited to become an Emerging Leader or a member of Young Leaders. Anyone under the age of 40 who makes a gift to United Way NCA gets recognized as an Emerging Leader; young professionals who make gifts of $1,000 and more become members of Young Leaders.
There are two reasons why you should get involved with your United Way by becoming an Emerging Leader of a member of Young Leaders. First, United Way NCA facilitates association and collaboration with some of the most influential young professionals in the National Capital Area: our members are “up and comers” in law firms, associates in our region’s top corporations, small business owners, and the like. But even more importantly, UWNCA provides you with the opportunity to impact the lives of community members in need. It is an honor to be associated with United Way NCA and a privilege to be part of a movement that improves people’s lives.
All Emerging Leaders and Young Leaders members Connect, Serve, and Lead:
- CONNECT with other young professionals and leaders of local businesses and nonprofit organizations;
- SERVE by sharing your skills with people who need your help; and
- LEAD by example, through service and leadership development opportunities.
Members of Young Leaders who make gifts of $1,000 and more are invited to exclusive events including United Way NCA Annual Tocqueville Celebration of Appreciation.
I hope you will join Young Leaders and me on this extraordinary opportunity to strengthen our communities, influence public policy, and advocate for improved social services. You’ll be glad you did.
Sincerely,
Andre P. Francis
