Give to the Max generates over $1.8 million for local charities
WASHINGTON, DC, November 10, 2011 – The results are in! Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington, the massive one-day regional online fundraiser, raised more than $1.8 million for approximately 1300 charities in the Greater Washington region. In addition, more than 17,800 people participated according to event organizers: Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, online fundraiser Razoo and United Way of the National Capital Area.
“We are thrilled how the Washington region embraced this effort,” said Lesley Mansford, CEO of Razoo.com. “In addition to donating, area residents used social media to spread the word to friends, colleagues, and family, and encouraged them to give.”
“This region continues to demonstrate its ability to unite and rally around a call to action, and the results from our first ever Give to the Max Day proves it,” said Terri Lee Freeman, President, Community Foundation for the National Capital Region.
“In addition to raising over $1.8 million, we are thrilled to see how many of our nonprofit members participated and maximized all the benefits of learning more about online fundraising and putting those skills to good use,” said Bill Hanbury, President and CEO, United Way of the National Capital Area.
As part of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington, nonprofits large and small were eligible to earn their share of more than $140,000 in cash awards, including up to $25,000 for nonprofits with the most donors and the most money donated. Those results will be announced at 4 PM on Thursday, November 10 on the Give to the Max Day blog.
Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington encompassed Washington, D.C., Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, The City of Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County and Charles County. All locally-serving registered United States 501(c)(3) organizations that have been vetted by the IRS are eligible to participate in the event. This inaugural one-day giving event was held in conjunction with the annual Digital Capital Week, which is a series of Web 2.0 events.
Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington was created by online fundraiser Razoo, and organized and supported by The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and United Way of the National Capital Area. The Case Foundation is the Social Impact Partner of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington. In addition to The Community Foundation and United Way, the other six members of the “Eight Neighbors” group—an alliance of local leading nonprofit and civic organizations—have also come together to support this event: Center for Nonprofit Advancement, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Leadership Greater Washington, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, and the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers.
