United Way of the National Capital Area to Host Free Forum:
“Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future”
WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, November 17, 2011, United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) will provide free financial counseling to residents in Prince William County. This event, “Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future,” takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Northern Virginia Family Services’ S.E.R.V.E. campus in Manassas, VA.
“Secure Your Finances, Secure Your Future” will feature representatives from banks, United Way NCA member organizations that provide financial literacy and job training services, and other financial services organizations. The forum seeks to inform the community about the vast resources available to help people find family-sustaining employment, better manage their money and improve their overall financial security.
”Many low-income residents resort to high-cost money management services like check cashing stores, money orders and payday loans simply because they don’t understand the alternatives,” said Bill Hanbury, President and CEO of United Way of the National Capital Area. “This forum will help our most at-risk neighbors connect to the expertise, services, and resources to earn more, save more and get on a road to increased financial stability.”
Advisors will be on-hand to provide credit counseling, money management assistance, directions on how to open a free bank account, and opportunities for job training and placement.
