Improving Access to Health Care

National capital area residents do not all have access to the basic medical care or health insurance and United Way NCA is committed to improving the situation, particularly for the underserved. One way we solve the issue of health care access is to host free health screenings multiple times a year around the region. The health screenings range from a broad cross section of preventative screenings for all aspects of physical and mental health to more narrow, disease-specific health screenings. A unique aspect of a United Way NCA health screening is the follow-up. Through our partners and member nonprofits, we don't just tell you that something needs more attention and send you on your way, we match you to the right partner to get you the assistance you require.

United Way NCA is one of many United Way's nationwide that partner with FamilyWize to provide free discount prescription cards to those who cannot afford to pay for their medications. This program has save families and individuals in our region over $2.5 million in prescription costs just this past year alone.
