United Way of the National Capital Area Campaign Manager Mary McFarland and Child Wellness Director Euniesha Davis were recently interviewed by Talk Loudoun, a widely read, local e-news publication, to discuss how United Way NCA is helping kids in Loudoun County get moving towards a healthier future with our Fun, Fly & Fit program.
Fun, Fly & Fit is an acclaimed, results-focused program that motivates children to play, exercise and have fun. Developed by United Way of the National Capital Area, Fun Fly & Fit has scored remarkable successes throughout Metropolitan Washington. It can easily be implemented as an in-school program or in after school sites.

On Monday, April 2, the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) announced that United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) and its member nonprofit organizations raised more than $13.5 million in the 2011 fundraising campaign, which ran from September 1 to December 31, 2011. Overall, the CFCNCA campaign raised more than $64.3 million for thousands of charities located throughout the greater Washington region.

On Friday, February 10th, students at Park View High School in Sterling, VA concluded their annual Spirit Link event. Spirit Link is a week-long competition that is coordinated by the Student Council Association, which is led by faculty liaison, Mr. Jeffrey Marsh. During the course of a week, students purchase paper chain links during homeroom. Everyday day, links are sold for a nominal fee and 100% of the proceeds from the competition are donated to United Way of the National Capital Area’s Loudoun Community Impact Fund.

United Way NCA teamed with Kaiser Permanente to host the 2nd annual MLK Day health screening in which we were able to screen hundreds of individuals in our Virginia and Maryland sites.
