Getting Back to Work: United Way NCA and CLB Train Visually Impaired Veterans for IT Careers

In the Washington, DC metropolitan area, we have more than 333,000 veterans who have proudly served our country. Unfortunately, as they transitioned to post-military life, many of these veterans faced difficult challenges, including finding jobs that provide family-sustaining income.

As part of United Way NCA's commitment to helping families achieve financial stability, we launched a pilot program to target support and workforce training towards our local veterans.

Research shows that a child who is not reading at grade level by the 4th grade may struggle throughout his academic career and have difficulty ever catching up to his peers. United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) sees supporting struggling readers as critical to our mission of creating positive educational outcomes.
